With our Nibblers, you can safely introduce solid food to your baby. Whether you choose the nibbler or the silicone version: they both introduce your baby to a wide range of tastes and textures at his or her own pace. Wondering how best to use the Nibbler? In this article you will find some handy tips.
What is a Nibbler?
At Nûby, we love little foodies with a big appetite for new flavors. That’s why we developed the Nibbler especially for them.
With the Nibbler, your baby can safely explore solid foods without the risk of choking or gagging. This way, your little one can happily discover new tastes, while you watch with peace of mind (or take the opportunity to relax for a moment).
Tip #1: choose the right Nibbler for the right moment
Every baby is unique, but from 6 months most babies are ready for solid food. And a Nibbler makes that journey of discovery extra fun and safe. We offer two types: one with a net and a silicone version.
Both are available in different colours, have a hygienic protective cover and are suitable for babies from 6 months onwards. Good to know: thanks to their locking system, the Nibblers can only be opened by an adult.
Nibbler with mesh net
The Nibbler with mesh net is ideal for firm (frozen) fruit and vegetables. Thanks to the fine net, your child feels the texture well, which helps to exercise the chewing muscles.
Just put some pieces of fruit or vegetables in the net and click it onto the base. The ring-shaped handle is ideal for little hands and big enough not to fit in a baby's mouth. You can easily remove the net to clean the Nibbler.
Silicone Nibbler
The silicone Nibbler is perfect for introducing your child to soft fruit or pureed food. Put the pieces or puree in the silicone part and snap it onto the sturdy handle. Feel free to let your child chew on the silicone mouthpiece: it is safe and easy to clean.
Tip #2: Select fruits and vegetables to suit your baby's needs
With a Nibbler, you can vary flavours and textures endlessly. But not all fruit and vegetables are suitable for a 6-month-old baby. Below is a handy overview so you can always be sure of your choice.
From 6 months onwards: the classics
In the beginning, allow your little foodie-to-be plenty of time to get used to new tastes and textures. Choose soft fruits, lightly steamed vegetables and/or purees.
- Fruits: strawberry, apricot, apple, banana, blackberry, citrus, raspberry, kiwi, lychee, mandarin, mango, melon, nectarine, papaya, pear, peach, grapefruit, plum, rhubarb, orange, starfruit, fig.
Vegetables: carrot, pumpkin, sweet potato, cauliflower, broccoli, courgette, tomato, avocado, parsnip, leek, fennel, spinach, chicory, turnip, aubergine.
Our top tip:
- Nibbler with mesh net: pieces of peach or cooked broccoli
- Silicone Nibbler: crushed banana or avocado
Whatever vegetables you choose: let them steam, boil or gently stew first. This makes them softer and more pleasant to chew. They are also easier for your baby to digest. This is because at that age, the digestive system is still developing.
From 8 months onwards: more variations and textures
Your child is getting more and more curious. So time to expand the menu!
- Fruit: pomegranate, passion fruit.
Vegetables: asparagus (soft boiled), celery (steamed), cucumber.
Our top tip:
- Nibbler with mesh net: pieces of cucumber
- Silicone Nibbler: tropical passion fruit puree
From 12 months onwards: more intense flavours
Your culinary explorer may now also experiment with intense flavours and small berries.
- Fruit: pineapple, blueberry, grape, cherry (pitted), gooseberry, physalis, redcurrant, cranberry.
Vegetables: corn, pepper, onion and garlic (cooked well and in mini portions with another vegetable), pointed cabbage, red cabbage, white cabbage, Brussels sprouts, radishes, pak choi, tubers, salsify, radish, radish, ramson ashes, slumber pea, soya sprouts.
Our top tip:
- Nibbler with mesh net: grapes (in small pieces)
- Silicone Nibbler: pepper (without peel)
Apple and cinnamon (stewed lightly together), carrot and peach, pepper and corn ... Feel free to mix different varieties, flavours and colours in your Nibbler. That way, little ones learn new flavour combinations and get a mix of vitamins all at once.
Be careful with allergens, even if you don't have any allergies or intolerances yourself. Introduce new foods one at a time and always keep an eye out.
Tip #3: Use the Nibbler as fresh medicine for toothache
Frozen pieces of fruit or cucumber are not only tasty but also cooling for incipient or persistent toothaches. They relieve your baby's gums while providing a surprising and refreshing texture. For example, fill the mesh net with frozen pieces of banana, mango or blueberry, or put some frozen fruit puree in the silicone Nibbler.
Tip #4: Use the Nibbler for some extra me-time
A Nibbler is fun for your baby, but also has unexpected benefits for you. While your little one is munching and feasting with fascination, you can take a break. Moreover, thanks to the sealing system, your baby cannot fumble open the Nibbler on its own. A nice and safe form of distraction and precious me-time for you.
You can, for instance, use the opportunity to have a snack yourself. After all, you are often so preoccupied with your child's eating experience that you lose sight of your own meal. With the Nibbler, you can share a meal together.
Tip #5: go out with the Nibbler
Do you have a day out planned? Then be sure to take your Nibbler(s) with you. Just before leaving, put some fresh or frozen fruit in it, seal it tightly and keep it cool. Whether you have a long train or car journey planned, or you need to entertain your little ones on a summer terrace: the Nibbler provides delicious distraction. Enjoy!
A tasty journey of discovery
The Nibbler is so much more than a handy gadget. It is a fun, safe and stress-free way to introduce your child step by step to the wonderful world of solid food. Try different flavours, be patient (!) and enjoy well-deserved breaks while your little one explores.
