Frequently asked questions

Being a parent raises a lot of questions. That's why we'd like to give you an overview of some frequently asked questions. You can also find a lot of information about the use of our products.

Faq hero

    General

    • Do Nûbyâ„¢ products contain harmful substances?

Nûby™’s parent company Luv n' Care ensures that our factories only use plastics, pigments and inks that do not contain BPA, phthalates or other suspect chemicals. In addition, all our products are tested according to American and European standards.

    • Can I obtain products for testing?

Many companies offer test products through promotional programmes or surveys. You can check their website for a section such as ‘Product testing’ or ‘Trial offers.’ It may also help to sign up for newsletters or contact customer service. Sometimes testers are selected through social media campaigns. Keep in mind that participation may be subject to availability and conditions.

    • What is the advantage of silicone compared to latex?

Silicone is more durable and resistant to abrasion than latex. It is odourless, hypoallergenic and less likely to cause allergic reactions. Silicone also remains more stable at high temperatures, making it ideal for sterilisation. It also retains its shape better and is often firmer than latex. Latex can be more flexible, but it tends to break down faster and can have an odour.

    Teethers

    • Can I refrigerate teething rings with PûrICEâ„¢ gel in the freezer compartment?

      No, you can't!

Teething rings with the special PûrICE™ gel should only be placed in the fridge, never in the freezer compartment. The freezer compartment is too cold, and we certainly want to protect baby's sensitive gums.

    Tableware

    • Why are the spoons no longer white?

The spoons can become discoloured by coming into contact with certain foods, such as carrots, tomatoes (sauce), pumpkin and sweet potatoes. This is due to the strong colouring substances such as carotene contained in the food. This substance can discolour our products, but does not affect the functioning of the spoon. Moreover, the discolouration is not harmful and does not give off any odour or taste.

The spoons are made of a soft and heat-sensitive fabric that ensures baby's comfort. However, this fabric then has the disadvantage of taking on the colour of the food.

    • Why do some spoons and bottles discolour after use?

Products can discolour by coming into contact with certain foods, for example carrots, tomato (sauce), pumpkin and sweet potatoes. This is due to the strong colouring substances such as carotene found in food.

To avoid a change of colour in the soft bottles, it helps to clean them with warm water and a mild soap before sterilising them. In this context, we also advise against cleaning them in the dishwasher.

    Cups

    • When is my child ready for a sippy cup?

Children can start practising from a drinking cup around 6 months of age. Start with a spout or straw cup, depending on what your child is comfortable with. Watch for signs such as interest in independent drinking. Provide a cup that is suitable for their age and development.

    • How do I teach my child to drink from a straw cup?

Start with a cup with a soft silicone straw. Get your child used to sucking first by holding some water or milk in the straw and squeezing lightly. Show how to drink from a straw yourself and encourage your child to imitate. Practice regularly and remain patient.

    • The replacement straw on my cup is too long / too short

Check that the replacement straw is suitable for the specific model of cup. If the straw is too long, you can carefully trim it, but make sure the end remains smooth. If it is too short, request a new straw from the manufacturer that fits better.

    • The replacement spout for my drinking cup cannot be found

Check the manufacturer's website for accessories or replacement parts. You can also contact their customer service. Check the model number of your cup to make sure you order the right part.

    • When does a silicone spout or straw need replacing?

Replace a silicone spout or straw when you see cracks, discolouration or wear. Check regularly for damage, especially if your child has teeth. It is usually recommended to replace the spout or straw every 2-3 months, depending on use.

    • The right cup at each step

Start with a spout or straw cup around 6 months and switch to an open cup from around 12 months. Choose cups that are suitable for your child's age and motor skills. Use non-spill cups for practice, but also let your child gain experience with spills.

    • How does the 2-speed valve work?

A 2-speed valve regulates the flow rate depending on how hard your child sucks. When sucking softly, the liquid flows more slowly, and when sucking firmly, it flows faster. This helps children drink at their own pace and prevents spills. Check that the valve is clean to keep it working properly.

    Breastfeeding & bottlefeeding

    • The teat does not let liquid through

Check if the hole in the teat is clogged and flush it with warm water. Some teats have a valve that needs to be activated. Make sure the teat is properly positioned and the valve is free of blockages. Always use a teat with the right flow rate for your baby's age. If the problem persists, consider a new teat.

    • Why is my silicone bottle leaking?

A silicone bottle may leak if the screw cap is not tight or if the parts are not assembled correctly. Check that the ring and teat are fitted properly and that there are no cracks. Overfilling the bottle can also cause leaks. Clean regularly to prevent blockages and use the bottle according to the instructions.

    • How do the silicone bottle's anti-colic valves work?

Anti-colic valves allow air to escape during drinking, preventing air bubbles from entering the milk. This reduces the risk of intestinal cramps. Make sure the valve is clean and free of blockages for optimal function. Position the bottle at the right angle so that the valve works properly. Refer to the bottle's manual for specific instructions.

    Cleaning & sterilizing

    • What is the best way to clean a drinking cup?

Clean a drinking cup by rinsing it with warm water and a mild detergent immediately after use. Use a bottle brush to thoroughly clean the inside, especially around corners or edges. Check that there is no residue left behind. For deeper cleaning, sterilise the cup once a week with boiling water or a steam steriliser. Let all parts dry completely before reassembling the cup.

    • What is the best way to clean a soother?

Wash a soother daily with warm water and a mild detergent. Rinse it thoroughly to remove soap residue. Sterilise the soother regularly by putting it briefly in boiling water or use a steriliser. Store the dummy in a clean, dry container when not in use. Check regularly for cracks and replace the dummy if necessary.

    • There is mould between the shield and teat of the soother, what can I do about this?

Remove the dummy from use immediately and clean it thoroughly. Clean the shield and teat separately with a toothbrush and mild soap. Then let everything dry thoroughly. Sterilise the parts in boiling water to kill any mould spores. Consider a new dummy and make a habit of cleaning and drying regularly to prevent mould growth.

    • Can I sterilise the mini bottle in hot water?

Yes, a mini bottle can usually be sterilised in hot water. Check the bottle's instructions first to see if it is heat-resistant. Boil the bottle in a pan of water for about five minutes. Make sure the bottle is completely submerged. Then let it dry in a clean place.

    • Can I sterilise an insulated cup?

Not all insulated cups are suitable for sterilisation in boiling water. Check the manufacturer's instructions to avoid damage to the insulating material. If sterilisation is not possible, clean the cup thoroughly with warm water and a mild detergent. Rinse well and leave to dry. If necessary, use a food-safe disinfectant spray.
